JourneyDigest.com is the product of an evolutionary process. In 1994 Dan Stacy took on the responsibility of owning and maintaining the Journey-L Mailing List. The band Journey was at that time defunct. Resources on the Internet for the band were few. The mailing list was owned by Hunter Goatley and maintained by Britt Pierce. Membership was active, with around 425 members, and traffic was brisk.

There was a brief hiatus while the mailing list was transferred to its new home on Cardina Internet in 1994, at which time
Dan Stacy took ownership. Opportunity was given to all who were interested to be signed back up for the mailing list, and preference was taken as to individual post or daily digest format. When the list came back to life after about two weeks down time, membership was again active, and growth continued.

1996 saw the hopes and dreams of Journey fans realized, in the reunion of the band Journey, followed by a studio album, Trial By Fire, with several singles being released, and promotional work being done by Sony Music in anticipation of a supporting tour. The mailing list at that time was still being hosted on Cardina Internet, and because of growth concerns and bandwidth issues, members were encouraged to take the daily digest format of the mailing list whenever necessary. For this reason the mailing list soon became known more as the Journey Digest than it's previous moniker, Journey-L and Journey-L Digest. Membership peaked at 1,437 members in July 1999. An active web site had been developing, from a very rudimentary format in the early days, to a more comprehensive site by 1998.

The year 2000 saw the creation of a new focus.
Dan Stacy approached 34 hand-picked people, each well-known for their abilities and reputations as the movers and shakers in JourneyDigest land. The goal was to transform the web site into a resource that could compliment the mailing list, while showcasing individual talent and promoting Journey. Many album and song reviews were completed during this phase of the project, and over 300 pages were added to the web site. Promotional work was done, and contests were run. Prizes given out during this phase of the web site project included numerous complete Journey CD libraries, a laptop computer, a Journey wall tapestry, and numerous other prizes. Total cost for this phase of promotion topped 3,000.00 in U.S. funds. Web site traffic was transformed from almost 500 visits per day to over 5,000 visits per day.

With the announcement that Journey was creating their own web site, things became uncertain for us at JourneyDigest. We wanted to continue to promote the band, and we certainly did not want to detract from the band's official site. We charted a course at that point which included music and album analysis, critical analysis, feature articles, lyrics, mailing list support, and a set of web forums. We maintained a position of supporting and promoting the official web site while retaining our independence and credibility.

In 1999 Journeyfest took place with the backing of JourneyDigest.com and the Journey Digest Mailing List, in Tinley Park, Illinois. The event took place at the first concert of that year's tour, and included a soundcheck with the band. A Journeyfest '99 t-shirt was signed by all who attended, and presented to the band, and was also on display on the piano during the concert.

With the closing of Cardina Internet in May 2000, the mailing list was moved to e-Groups, and within a year e-Groups became Yahoo! Groups. Currently there are around 750 members on the Yahoo! Groups Journey Digest list, including 7 moderators and an administrator. Forum membership is around 200 at this time, with 8 moderators and a forum administrator. Current traffic on the web site is running at or above 15,000 visits per day.
